Be Inspired.
Did you ever want to write a book? Run a marathon? Take a month off to drive cross country?
I recently worked with a client who wanted to launch his own business. This was something he envisioned for the past 10 years, but…
- It wasn’t the right time
- What if I fail?
- How will I pay for benefits?
- I have a secure job and compensation
- And then finally…. I am too close to retirement
But what was the missed opportunity? Think back to where you were 5 years ago. What have you accomplished since then? If you had taken that chance on yourself, where might you be today?
When I think back to my life in 5 year increments, I have experienced massive change and disruption both personally and professionally, with the majority of that culminating in the last 5 years.
- 20 years ago I was just getting started in my career in financial services, and was working on my dual master’s program.
- 15 years ago I got married, bought my first house and started the first of multiple relocations across the country, moving from MA to AZ, and transitioned from being an Advisor to working in corporate
- 10 years ago I was on my second relocation, living in MO, had my first child, and second major role in corporate
- 5 years ago, and another two states in between, a second child born and multiple promotions later I was fully immersed in my ascent up the corporate ladder
-
Today – I have relocated to my retirement destination full time, experienced my first merger, my husband and I both started our own businesses, and we have lots of uncertainty, BUT we have endless opportunities for new experiences and success for this next 20 years.
Look back at your 5 year moments…. What opportunities and success can you create in the next 5, 10, 15, or even 20 years?
Don’t leave opportunity on the table… go after it!
